Electricity cost calculator

Calculate a device’s electricity use and cost from its power, daily operating hours and number of days. Include multiple identical devices and standby consumption during the remaining hours. The breakdown separates active use and standby to show where spending arises. The annual projection repeats the same pattern for 365 days.

Illustrative inputs, not current market prices. Prices are manual. Language does not select a tariff or tax regime.

Your inputs

Changing physical units converts the corresponding values. Changing currency does not.

How this calculation works

Daily active energy is watts × hours ÷ 1,000. Standby energy uses 24 hours minus active hours, avoiding double-counting time. Multiply by days, number of devices and price per kWh. A 1,000 W device used two hours daily for 30 days consumes 60 kWh; at 0.25 per kWh it costs 15, excluding standby.

What is included and excluded

This is not a full electricity bill: it excludes fixed service charges, separately billed taxes and time-of-use bands. Enter an appropriate final kWh price for the operating hours. Rated power may differ from average consumption for thermostatic or cycling appliances. For those, measured data or annual label consumption in the replacement tool is preferable.

Practical checks before deciding

Save usual use as comparison A and reduce operating hours to see the cost effect. Then change only standby power to separate the causes. Avoid projecting a seasonal device across a full year: enter the actual days used and rely on that period’s cost. The annual figure is an extrapolation, not a forecast of your bill.
